apt はDebian発祥によるパッケージ管理ツールのことで、現在はRed Hat でも利用できるようになっております。Red Hat には元々、up2date というパッケージをアップグレードを行うコマンドがありますが、RedHat8においては2003年12月31日で有効期限がきれ、Red Hat9においても2004年4月いっぱいで有効期限が切れることになっています。Red Hat社が、up2date コマンドに代わって採用したものがapt-get であり、簡単に説明すれば、Windows Update と同等の機能を持っています。システムにインストールされているパッケージを調べ、依存関係なども考慮してアップグレードしたり、セキュリティアップグレードを行ったり、また新規にインストールしたりすることもできるので、わざわざ必要なパッケージをひとつづつ更新したりする必要がなくなり非常に便利です。

■apt-getのインストール

　ここでは、apt-get のRPMパッケージをインストールします。

■パッケージリストの更新

　どのパッケージがインストール済みでどのパッケージがインストールされていないかなどを記録する際に、パッケージシステムはプライベートなデータベースを使用します。パッケージリストのデータベースを更新するには、apt-get update コマンドを使用します。このコマンドは、/etc/apt/sources.list を参照し、どのサイトからパッケージリストを取得するかを指定しています。デフォルトでは、以下のようになっていますが、デフォルトで問題ありません。

■RPMパッケージのアップデート

　RPMパッケージをアップデートするには、apt-get upgrade コマンドを使用します。実際に、アップグレードする前に、なにがインストールされるかを確認しておきたい方は、--no-act オプションを付け加えて実行してください。

■RPMパッケージの新規インストール/アンインストール

　インストールされていないRPMパッケージをインストールするには、apt-get install [ パッケージ名 ] を使用します。例えば、nmap をインストールするには以下のようにします。
